Still so many Koreans have very interesting ritual. They are having on anniversary on dead people's birthday. Every culture and nation could think and remember the dead, but having anniversary and ready for so many foods seems quiet strange. But this rituals are not only just strange ceremony but have many other hidden reasons in it.

To having a ritual, there are certain rules. The food have to setted on the right place for example red foods are on the east and white food on the west. Also there is a restricted food too. So it is very careful ready for setting. Than there is a order for having ritual. First start with bow. Next move the chopstick and spoon into another food and bow again. You have to repeat it for 3~5 times. After finishing the ritual, burn the ancestor's paper tablet and eat the food used on rituals. It symbols the absorbing dead ancestor's power into us. It looks like old-fashioned but it still have a important reason. It gathers the rest family members and having a good time during the eating. It unions family bond and this was what the Korean's traditional relationship is.

For these reason, It is obvious that this rituals are not for ancestors but the us who prepares all the rituals. It helps to gather the relationship with people and have some good meal with the talk. Also they can remember the ancestor more and have the feelings of relief at when someday they will be dead because they will be memorized by the decendant too.

  1. I think your essay is about the ritual ceremony on dead people's birthday. Your essay contains much information about the ceremony. So I think there is no problems for people who are not familiar with Korean traditions to understand your essay.
Though I have much experience to participate this ceremony, I haven't know the meaning of burning the ancestor's paper. It was very interesting information to me.
But, while I was reading, I found some misuses of capitols. The first sentence of the last paragragh, I think you should change 'It' to 'it'. Also, I think 'preparing for ~' is more natural than 'ready for ~'.

  2. 1. What I like about this piece of writing is that you explain ritual in detail. I think it will help readers understand what you want to intend.

    2. Your main point seems to be several rules and reasons about a ritual ceremony for our ancestors.

    3. The last sentence, 'Also they can remember the ancestor more and have the feelings of relief at when someday they will be dead
because they will be memorized by the decendant too.' line struck me as powerful, because I would think about something similar to your explanation when my family have a ritual.

    4. In a introduction paragraph, you mentioned 'hidden reasons in it'. After I read all, I still wonder what hidden reasons are. I hope that you make them clear.
