p.145 first draft cause and effect 200901051

Many people dream a life of financial success or more simply said, they dream of being rich. They really care about having lots of money and having the financial means to do what they want in their life. Unfortunately, for many that dream will be an utopia. Many blame it to their low salary or having no luck in life to achieve that goal. The truth is far from that. Then how comes that some people who were in the same circumstances were able to achieve that dream? The answer is simple. They are good in saving money and they live below their means.

That's why knowing how to save money and living belong one's means makes a big difference in the road to financial success. For example those who learned during childhood how to save money and its importance, will keep having that habit when they become an adult. They realize that saving money is not only important to have some extra cash for the bad times, but also that it can be used to make their fortune grow. They can use a part of their savings to invest when an investment opportunity rises up. Therefore saving money will not only lead to financial certainty, but also to financial success by using the saved money to gain more wealth.

The second requirement to live below one's means is also important to make one's dream to financial success to come true. However, many people do the opposite and live well above their means. They spend more money than they earn. As a result, they have to apply for a loan to pay off their debt. After that they have to apply another loan to pay off their first loan and then a third loan to pay off their second loan and so on. Like this people become slaves of their own debt and they have to keep working their whole life to pay off their loans. This will cause for people to fail in their finances and never achieve financial success. The best way to avoid this is living below one's means and be careful about spending money. That's why living below one's means is another important factor to financial success.

Knowing how to save money and living below one's means are two causes that will help to lead to success in finances. Saving money will lead to financial certainty and freedom to invest and gain some extra wealth. Living below one's means however will make sure that people don't spend too much money. Therefore they won't make unnecessary debts that will only lead to failure in making their dream come true.

A friend who always supports me, a teacher who always gives me valuable tips in life, a colleague who is very funny to work with…. There are all examples of the precious relationships in life. Everybody wants to live the life with the successful human relationships. But they often overlook some simple facts to succeed in human relationship. To succeed in human relationship and have wonderful friends, there are two major things to remember.

The first thing to remember is the trust. The trust is the most important thing in relationships. To be sincerely close with someone, you must gain the trust from him. Once you gain the trust, more than half is done. He will share everything with you, depending much on you. If he is someone who is related in your work thing, he will give you every important work. To gain the trust, you should also show him how much you trust him. You should show him that you think him as a trustworthy, sincere person. And also, you should always listen to him.

And the second thing you should remember is the respect. The respect is also very important thing. Everyone wants to feel that he/she is respected by someone. Think in his shoes, think what you've said, and think about every little behavior you did every moment. Think just once more before you say something. Whatever you said or behaved, it should be the respectful act. The closer you get to someone, you should be more considerate.

Those two things are simple, but quite hard to remember and put into action. Even I know that fact. But if you do those two things, I am sure that you could have successful relationships.

Have you ever played Starcraft or Warcraft? Or certain types of games like that? Most of the days, so many teens are having fun in playing online games. They took a lot of time to game, but it is very interesting that the how many times you spend to your game doesn't gurantee your success at the game. To success on the online strategy game, there is certain types of being success.. It have total two type and you just need only these to win at game.

The first part is to know about the system of the game. You have to remember that however the game is made by system, so like the other system, if you put good input, there comes good output. So what is the good input? It is the resources. The more you get the resource, the more you can make your unit. However the others are playing good, the many units can cover everything. So do not forget. The game is only a system and whether to win, the most important thing is that you have to input something, whatever it calls at the game.

But now you will wonder about why then I cannot win? I followed your choice. Now this is the second part. You have to understand the way where your game is going. As in first part, I say that the you have to show the system of the game. and the second part is that you have to see the flow of the game. The player whether player or computer, will play differently at each game. So every time, you have to know what they are playing. Mostly, your feel will be better if you play more games. This why so many people are playing games. But it doesn't mean the more play gives you to see more better. It is only the higher possibility. So if you just concentrate about it, then you can find it easily.

So I talked about two parts of how to win at the online strategy game. I ,also the one of the game player, always mind this two strategy before the game with my friend, mostly Kim Dong Young who mostly play game with. So I had wined so lot. Don't forever. however the game is so fun, the game is only a system and you are playing with the people overside the computer. It is the only important thing in when you are having a game.

Survive in a Korea Karaoke

A small dark room, glamorous lights, loud music, a big screen and two microphones… What do they remind you of? The answer is a karaoke where people sing songs for entertainment. In Korea, many businessmen like to go to karaoke with their colleagues after work; because they think it is very significant to spend a lot of time with co-workers and build a close relationship. Also, if you brighten up the mood in karaoke, you may impress your boss and get a chance of promotion. There are several ways to have a big success in karaoke.

Selecting proper songs is most important. Some exhilarating songs are suitable for this situation, such as dance music. These kinds of songs can make people move up and down. If you choose some quiet songs, your co-workers will talk with a person sitting next to them, rather than listen to your song. In addition, you should consider the age of people when you select songs. It does not make sense to sing old pop songs when you are with young junior staffs. On the contrary to this, your superiors may not know recent songs, so you better sing songs which are as old and popular as most people in Korea know.

Another way to be successful in livening up the atmosphere is that you should be confident. It does not matter if you are good at singing or not. In order to make people enthusiastic and responsive to you, you have to be confident first. Even if you make mistakes and look somewhat crazy at that time, the next day no one can remember what you did clearly. People only remember that you are an appealing person to be with. In order to have confidence, it is also helpful to make a list of songs that you can sing well and practice them.

You do not need to worry about having dinner with your colleagues if you know the secret of success for karaoke nights, including selecting proper songs and being confident. No one can deny that good relationship between co-workers is as important as great ability to work in Korea society. Positive attitudes in karaoke can help you make a good impression on people who you work with.

Have you ever eaten a maejakwa? What about some cookies? A maejakwa is one of traditional Korean sweets. Starting from making dough, cooking a maejakwa requires rolling the dough thin, shaping it into the unique appearance, and frying it. Then how can we make a cookie? It is also made from dough, but it seems that not only its recipe but the taste of it is totally different from that of maejakwa. However, we can easily find that they all often make people satisfied when people are not hungry but need something to nibble on. Now, let me give you these two paintings, Impression: Sunrise and La rencontre ou "Bonjour Monsieur Courbet."(The rest will be expressed as Sunrise and La rencontre), which look so different but have something quite similar with each other. As you can see with the comparison of maejakwa and cookie, these two different paintings have something very important in common.

If you try to observe these paintings closely, you will soon realize that they are very different in the way of making a brush stroke, using colors, describing the details. While La rencontre is concentrating on people who bumped into each other, Sunrise is focusing on a landscape, the beautiful scene of sunrise. In this point, Sunrise tried to give the viewers the chance to feel that they are actually looking at the sunrise when they see the painting. If we look closely at Sunrise in a very short distance with it, there would be just some brush strokes. When we see the painting in farther distance like we can do right now, however, we can feel sure that he tried to give us the image, impression of sunrise. In contrast, if we do the same thing on La rencontre, we would find the men's shoes, collars, hats or maybe right ear of the dog. Courbet, who drew the painting, wanted to show the viewers that how he thought about an artist. The person right in front him is generally accepted as his patron, Altred Bruyas. The person is with two partners who would protect him in emergency, a servant on the right side of him and a dog on the other. Compared to this, Courbet in the painting doesn't seem to care about his condition of life. He just seems to be proud of himself, which is hard to find in the rich person standing right before him. In this painting, we can see what the important principle that Courbet had on drawing was: Courbet painted according to his own standards, not for King, Pope, or his patron like people commonly did in his age.

Now, leaving from what we talked before and let's try to focus on what Sunrise and La rencontre have done for us, like we did on a maejakwa and a cookie. They reliezed in different times of art, but the reactions were the same. People shoked on these two paintings because they both tried something new in the times. Before La rencontre, artists thought that an art is should be all about meaningful religious or historical events like the Last Supper, the Birth of Venus. Compared to them, what Courbet described on his canvas was just a thing which can happen in everyday life. Similar to this, Monet, the artist who drew Sunrise, experienced the same reactions of his painting because he drew the impression of sunrise without using the color black, which seemed incredible to the people of the day. Most people didn't want to believe it so some of them even made sarcastic remarks at him and his painting, Sunrise.

Sunrise and La rencontre are totally different paintings except they both made remarkable changes in the history of art. Behind them there are the braveness of the painters who did not afraid of what people at that time might think about their painting.

There are two special celebrations in Korea that I hate. Those are the Valentine's Day and the White Day. On those days, Koreans exchange chocolates and candies respectively. Why I hate those? Because those days are the days for the couples! The true pleasure that we can feel on the Valentine's Day or the White Day, I think, comes from something that we received from the boyfriend or girlfriend. I don't have a boyfriend who would give me candy, so I can't feel true pleasure, and that's the reason why I hate two special celebrations. These two celebrations I hate have a lot of similarities like this and also, differences. I would like to tell you about those.

Above all, the Valentine's Day and the White Day are the days we can show our sense of love, friendship, respect by give someone chocolates and candies. Sometimes children give to parents, students give to teachers, but usually in Korea, young couples exchange those things. Valentine's Day and White Day are also on the 14th of the month. Valentine's Day is February 14th, and White Day is March 14th.

Valentine's Day and White Day have many differences as well. I heard that it is a little bit different from that of Korea, but there is Valentine's Day in other western countries as well. In contrast, there is no White Day in western countries. White Day is originated from the Japanese baking company's events on March 14th. It became famous in Japan, and it came to countries such as Korea and China. And White Day exists only in some Asian countries.

I have disliked those two days until now, but I really want to like those days. I hope I can make a boyfriend somehow by the next Valentine's Day and enjoy that day.

Two people comparison

There is a saying "Birds of a feather flock together". Bur for me sometimes it seems to be wrong. I have some best friends and Ho-seung and John are two of my best friends. They are very similar but sometimes they seem to be different each other.

As two of my best friends, they seem to very similar. First, they do their best in their areas. Ho-seung is a baduk player. He always studies baduk hard and he wins a lot of competitions and tournaments. He is very professional. John is a university student. He has gotten high grades and scholrship. He always studies hard. Second, they are masculine. The way they act and talk is extremely tough. And also they like sports both playing and watching.

Thus they are similar, but they are sometimes different. First, Ho-seung likes to brag. Whenever he wins the competitions he brags himeself and what he has done. On the other hand, John is very humble. He never brag himself and what he has done. Instead, he just says that it's lucky. Second, unlike john, Ho-seung knows many people. Ho-seung is a so called wide foot. He knows a lot of people and has a good relationship with his acquaintance. On the other hand, John doesn't know many people. He only knows few people.

Thus Ho-seung and John are similar but sometimes they seem to be different. Regardless how they are different, both are my true friends and they are true friends each other. They are complementary.

                                                           Two different pets

I want compare two pets dog and cat, because of when I first image of pets that thinking about dog and cat, of course recently many people make turtle, snake or the other animal became their pets, but normally dog and cat living with people. And then cut and dog many ways really different.

For example, dog understand what master say and follow to master order, but cat be defiant what master saying just doing what they want to do. the other way dog like walking with master but cat never walking with master on the street, but cat always cause by master hug. when I was jogging in the morning lots of master runing with their dog but i never saw someone who jogging with their cat.

In my opinion I think dog is better than cat. From my heared about history both of them dog give me touched affected more than cat. when I was child my mother told me about dogs history, I still remember about that. someone who is nanny in rich  family and they have a big dog and the dog very follow to master. when master come back home dog bark at the door say hai with master, as well as when master angry with something the dog go to master side lick master's hand. but dogs life short than person die earlier than people so make master said. however cat I just think about scaring Because of I heared about just scaring things from the other people that is cat can see gost in the midnight except that I don't like cat image let me feeling uncomfortable, but I always heared about I looks like cat image.

For better for worse, someone who said dog and cat can not living together because of they are very different ways life style. such as the dog is wagging his tail means happy with something but for cat that means discontent about something. so when they get together always fighting each other.

Can you ever think what is the most popular and best pet to human being? It is the most controversy in the world because some people will say that it is dog and the others will say it is cat. Because they are mostly wide known pets, they have some of the similarity but mostly they are different in many other ways.

They have so many similarities but the most thing is that the first they can easily sympathy with human beings. cats and dogs are highly syncronized to human  beings. For example, in a research held in Britain that the dog can feel where their master is. Also, cats can feel same things too. They can some way can feel their master's feeling.

But they have a big different. The most important difference is that the dog think the human as their master and the cat think as their friend or partners. Because of this, they behave very differently. If the dog know that the master is in dangerous, the dog will do anything he know to save the master, but differently cats do not care about us. It only thinks about only themselves.

This is what the cat and dogs are in same and also in different. They both can feel the other's feeling but it is different that the dog try to think others too different from that cats didn't.

Two works of art

France is famous for its artist. Georges Pierre Seurat and Gustave Caillebotte are two of well-known French artists in the world. 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' is Seurat's the most famous work and 'Paris street; rainy day' is one of the Caillebotte's well-known work. There are two similarities and two differences between these pictures.

There are two similarities between two works. Firstly, there are some common things between each artist. Seurat and Caillebotte were born Paris, France. They also belonged to the middle class. Their approaches to painting were different from others who lived in the same age. Though their works fit into the impressionism and neo-impressionism, they were more realistic artists than others. Seurat painted his work by scientific principle, especially pointillism to paint a picture by dotting various kinds of colors. Caillebotte drew his pictures as similar as photos. In addition, there are many likenesses on each painting. The main characters are the man and woman. Two artists drew them at the bottom of the left side of the paintings. They are also holding up an umbrella, too. Many other people appeared on each painting. The backgrounds where they painted were the spots in Paris. Seurat drew the island of la grande jatte and Caillebotte drew one of the streets in Paris.

Though many things are in common on each painting, there are two big differences in their works, too. First of all, two paintings fit different style. Seurat is an artist of neo-impressionism. As neo-impressionists painted more organized to introduce scientific order, they did their works after careful thinking. However, Caillebotte is an artist of impressionism. As these artists catch the impression that the artists got at the moment, they drew the picture at the moment they saw. Atmospheres of each painting are different, too. Seurat's painting describes the cheerful moment of one Sunday afternoon. People wear clothes and dresses with various colors and seem to be happy and cheerful. Most of them are looking forward and it seems to enjoy the day under the sunshine. On the other hand, Caillebotte's painting describe one rainy day. A lot of achromatic colors are used and people are looking downward. These factors make the mood of the picture depressed and gloomy.

Most people don't keep in mind about some information about artists, paintings and styles when they have a chance to enjoy masterpieces like 'Island of La Grande Jatte' and 'Paris street; rainy day'. If you combine these ideas when you go such places, you can be more enjoyable and pleasant than before.

p.128 first draft comparing two persons

Tom and Tim, identical twins, are fairly good friend of mine. There is a general believe that identical twins have more or less an identical personality, but Tom and Tim are nothing like that. Although they show some similarities in their personality, they have also complete different personal traits.

When comparing the twins, both have a very social personality and both like to go out whenever they can. They have lots of friends and at the same time, they are also very popular amongst those friends. The brothers always get invited to parties and occasional festivals, which is always too big of a temptation to resist. So they always end up saying yes to the invitation. Not only do they often go out with their friends, both of them like to go somewhere on their own. Tom always go for a walk on his own and Tim prefers to go fishing on his own. When only considering the comparison between Tim and Tom, then people could indeed say that identical twins indeed have the same personality.

Although the two of them might be identical twins, they seem to have more things uncommon to each other than common. On the one hand, Tom is the non-academic type. He likes playing online games, football and above all he loves to sleep. Studying is the last thing in his mind that he wants to do voluntarily. On the other hand, Tim is the complete opposite of Tom. Tim is the more academic type. He loves studying, reading books and he's always interested in learning something new. Also, he hates any kind of physical exercise. Unlike his twin brother, Tim would do anything to avoid physical activity. Contrasting the two of them, could make someone wonder if identical twins really are that similar to each.

Tim and tom might be identical twins, but that doesn't mean that they have the same personality. They might have some similarities such as being very social and love to go out, but other personal characteristics clearly show that both of them also have completely  different personal traits from each other. For example, Tom has a more active personality than Tim and Tim is more the bookworm type. Therefore, being identical twins doesn't mean that they are 100% similar to each other. Instead when the two of them are contrasted to each other, there are some clear distinctive differences to notice..

"The Back You Want to Kick" and "Snakes and Earrings"

Introduction of Academic Writing

In 2004, two Japanese girls, Watawa Risa and Ganehara Hitomi received a Japanese literary award at the same time. The title of the books are "The Back You Want to Kick" and "Snakes and Earrings". It was really big issue because they were the youngest writers who got the prize. I really interested in their books when I heard it, and I found that they are very similar and different in some points.

They basically have a lot of similarities. Their age is almost same, and two girls got the Akutagawa Prize, one of the most valuable literary awards in Japan at the same time. Their theme of the novel is also similar, because both of them are talking about the young people who are wandering in their life. Also, two female author tried to describe inside mind of an young girl.

However, there are some comparative things about them and their books. First of all, the life that the two writers have lived is totally different. Wataya Risa is one of the smartest writer, because she is the student of Waseda university, which is one of the great university in Japan. In contrast, Ganehara Hitomi quit her high school when she was 15 years old. Her father was an literary professor, so she could receive a lot of support from her father. Because of these difference in their background, their heroine is also different. In the novel "The Back You Want to Kick", the heroine is normal high school student who is sick and tired of the human relationship. However, in the novel "Snakes and Earrings", the heroine is a girl who are interested in split tongue. Also, the people around her are not that normal, so there were so many strange things when I read the book.

Although both of two books have female narrator who are talking about their insider mind and written by same-aged female author, they have totally different attractive points. Maybe this was the reason that they could won the prize in the same year, and I really loved those two books to read.

They Are Coming!

When buying the calendar, I turn a page of it over and over. I am sure that you do, too. I count national holidays! I check whether some national holidays are on the weekend or not. Unfortunately, in 2011, Christmas is on Sunday and the Day of Buddha's Coming is on Saturday. Like this sad point, these two days have many similarities. But there are some differences as well.

First of all, Christmas and the Day of Buddha's Coming are significant days for people who are Christian and Buddhists respectively. In these days, people celebrate the birthday of their God and keep the teachings in mind. Another similarity is that many people tend to make more donations. On Christmas, you can find many charity pots of the Salvation Army. It originates in a denomination of Christianity, which focuses on social services. Buddhists who file in and out at temples usually make contributions which are called sijoo. Moreover, most people look forward to these two days, because they do not need to go to school or work!

It is also easy to find several differences between Christmas and the Day of Buddha's Coming. One of obvious differences is the season. Christmas is in winter, so many people hope a white Christmas. On the other hands, the Buddha's birth day is in early May. It is on spring when the weather continues to be cool. In addition, people enjoy the Christmas even though they do not have the religious beliefs. Now Christmas denotes the day that people have the special time with their family, friends or lover. However, only Buddhists are celebrating Buddha's birthday. Some people do not know when exactly it is.

Christmas and the Day of Buddha's Coming have not only similarities, but also differences. Both are carrying an important meaning for the believers with a large donation. Nevertheless, unlike the Buddha's birthday, Christmas is well-known for people almost all around the world. I think people are likely to love these two days regardless of their religion.

I want compare with two city. which is sydney in Australia and seoul capital in korea. Both of them very different. however they a few ways are similarities. such as both of them is developed city in the world as well as there are lots of foreigner.

I think both of them very different. First is area. sydney bigger than seoul that's why sydney lots of house and can easy saw that park and farm, and also when we move one place to the other place take lost of time. But in seoul area can easier see that high building and which park very small most of them just located near by river which name is hangang. Second is people about foreigner. In the sydney they are lots of foreigner including chinese, indian, Vietnam, tailand, America, England and so on. they are lots of kind person we can saw. But in korean there are less than sydney I think most of foreigner are chinese. third one is business hours. in the sydney they close very earlier. most of restaurant close at 5pm, but in the koran they close in the midnight even there are lots of restaurant open 24 hour. that's why korea have lots of drinker than the sydney.

It is interesting to see how people and places from different city can similar and different between two country. I think that's is different culture. But they are also similar because they are both places where follow to modern style.

Last summer, I went to the Hongkong and Macao. Before I go there, I actually didn't know much about that places, so I thought that they are the name of the country which are located in the South-East Asia. However, I was definitely wrong. They are located in the same areas, but have different lifestyles. It was really interesting that they have some similarities and also differences.
Hongkong and Macao have many geological similarities. Both of them are located in the South-East of the China, and they are special administrative regions. Also, they have the same point that they we re the colony of other countries. Hongkong was the colony of the Britain, and Macao was the colony of the Portuguese. Hongkong and Macao are using Cantonese as their first language. Finally, both of them are in the subtropical regions.
However, they also have many differences, which is cultural things and their lifestyles. Industry and market of Hongkong totally relies on import, so they earn their money through manufacturing, while Macao earn their money through the tourist industry, especially from the casino. In the point of political system, Hongkong is using two system because the city is separated in two parts which are peninsula and island. Macao is using one political system.
As I mentioned, Hongkong and Macao are very similar in the point of geological and historical studies. However, they also have many differences in cultural points. Because two cities many similarities and differences, it was very interesting to travel there.

Week 11 Assignment by Jang Jun Hwa

Fraternal Twins, Gold Coast and Pattaya

Do you have any plans for the winter vacation? During the upcoming vacation, I will go to the beach. Does it sound weird? However, if you get some information on Gold Coast in Australia and Pattaya in Thailand, which are famous for their beaches, you will understand me. I highly recommend spending your holiday in one of them. Those two cities seem to be fraternal twins, which have not only many similarities, but also differences.

When I visited Gold Coast, the ambience of the city reminded me of Pattaya in many ways. In both cities, there are many tourists. A large number of people visit Gold Coast and Pattaya every year. According to Allpattaya.com, the number of tourists in Pattaya is over 5 million. When it comes to Gold Coast, the city council's statistics show that it attracts more than 10 million tourists annually. In addition, winter is the best season to travel these two cities. Thailand is known for its tropical climate. Even though temperatures fall to a minimum in winter, the average temperatures are about 25 degrees. During this season, it hardly rains and the weather continues to be cool and pleasant. As for Gold Coast in Australia, the temperature is the highest. This is because Gold Coast is located in the southern hemisphere. It is usually clear and warm. People can enjoy a perfect weather for outdoor activities such as surfing.

Meanwhile, they have a big notable difference in those two cities. It is the scenery of the city at night. At night, it is hard to see people on the streets in Gold Coast. Except for the weekend, the city seems to be a place where no one lives. On the other hand, people can find the splendid night in Pattaya. The streets are crowded with people who do not merely follow the tour guide and want to fell the real Pattaya. There are many bars which offer Muay Thai show and mini concerts, and markets where people can buy Thai traditional crafts. Among many attractions, the biggest surprise is the red-light districts. A lot of young girls solicit openly on the streets, holding tourists by the arm. During the Vietnam War, the US soldiers came to Pattaya to get rid of their stress and its seedy sex industry was thriving. Christopher Evans wrote in his book, Adventure guide Thailand, "Not surprisingly, the prostitutes, pimps, pill pushers and pornography purveyors moved in as more and more US soldiers discovered that Pattaya was the place to party."(pg. 146)

You will be surprised how similar and different Gold Coast is with Pattaya at the same time. Tourism is still the most important industry in both cities. Especially, from November to January, the number of tourist reaches its peak. However, the main reason why people visit each city can be little different. Gold Coast is called the surfers' paradise, but Pattaya is considered a place to party.

Protect Teens from Alcohols

Nowadays, more and more teenagers are exposed to alcohols and cigarettes worrying many parents and adults. To handle such problem, both governments of Korea and the U.S. are taking measures by means of strict rules and punishments. However, even though the two countries are pursuing the same goal and implementing a variety of methods, Korea, if it is compared to America, still has a long way to go in preventing teenagers from such violations.

Similarities of the two are quite obvious. An increasing number of students in both nations start drinking alcohol or smoking in their earlier ages than of the past. Under the law of the two countries, students are strongly restricted to alcohol and cigarettes. When it compared to the U.S., however, there are some loopholes in Korea for teenagers to break such rules. In Koreastore owners are strictly prohibited from selling alcohol to minors under the law. In reality, however, some minors can buy alcohol, saying that they lost their IDs. What would it be like in the U.S., a country which we might think is more generous or open in terms of drinking culture? In fact, compared to Korea, it has a draconian legal system in place to stop underage drinking. Detectives in plain clothes often engage in a sting operation to catch shop owners selling liquor to the minors. Teenagers cannot even think about purchasing alcohol pretending to have lost their IDs. If a shop owner is caught selling alcohol to minors three times within three years, his license is revoked, and in some cases he has to serve his time in prison. One there was an article about a Korean American living in LA who went bankrupt after being caught twice selling liquor to minors. His license was revoked and he even lost his ownership to his store.

All this is a reminder that it is shop owners who should be at the forefront of preventing minors from having access to alcohol. In the U.S. store owners never sell liquor to anyone who cannot prove that he or she is legally an adult because they know this can be a recipe for bankruptcy. In Korea, however, there is no shop owner who sells alcohol to minors and gets punished rightly. Thus, The Korean authorities and shop owners should learn a lesson from this and establish stronger and better-organized systems to protect young generation.

Comparison/ contrast essay

"I didn't commit a crime. I am innocent. I cannot understand why I should pay more than 400,000 won as a fine."

Some Koreans who do not know the rules in Singapore can argue they are innocent after police officers approach and force Koreans to follow into the police station. This situation happens because of the different culture between Seoul, Korea and Singapore. People might think Singapore is totally different from Seoul. However, both cities have things in common.

Seoul is a capitol city in Korea. It is a harbor of high technology and business. Therefore, most people usually are in hurry because of their busy lives. Like Seoul, Singapore is a capitol city of Singapore. More and more people live in Singapore, too. Also, lots of foreigners visit both cities to experience each of culture. Safe night life, well-equipped public transportation such as subways and buses and uniqueness of each culture might strongly appeals to them.

Compared to both cities, they also have two differences on aspects of law and the language education provided in each country. At first, Singapore has far more strict laws than those in Korea. As I mentioned above, such behaviors like spitting on the road, smoking in the public places and being a jaywalking, which is accepted in Korea, are subjects to criminal prosecution. In addition, a lot of kids learn Korean as a mother tongue. They learned English as a foreign language when they are young. Some kids event go abroad to speak English fluently. On the contrast, Singaporean kids learn two mother tongue languages. They learned Singlish and Chinese in their usual lives.

Both cities are attracting many outside people by their characteristics. Capitol cites of each country, being safe in night, unique culture are the similarities between two cities. They are also different attitude toward law observance and language education.

Seoul and Vélez, a small village in Spain, are two places that are nothing alike; however both places are very open and kind to tourists. Also both places also have their own charms that make me feel at home. For me, it would be very difficult to choose between the two places because of their differences and their alikeness.

Contrasting Vélez and Seoul isn't very difficult because their differences are hard to ignore. The biggest contrast between the two places is that Seoul is a megacity. It has a population that is even bigger than some of the smaller countries. On the other Vélez is a small village where everyone knows everyone. It's so small that no one can hold secrets from each other. Another contrast is that Seoul is a high-tech city. It has all kinds of high-tech gadgets to improve the life of its citizens. In Vélez however, everything is low-tech. Time seems to have stopped and progression with it. The third major contrast is its lifestyle. In Seoul everyone is in a rush. People on the street are rushing to somewhere as if they forgot to turn off the stove and need to rush home to shut it off. In Vélez life is much slower. Everything is in a slow pace. People take their time for everything. They seem to enjoy life in their own slow pace. Both cities have distinctive contrasts that make them both special and hard to choose which one is the better one.

Between the megacity and the small village, there is one similarity that is obvious. The both places are very tourist friendly. On the one hand, Seoul, in its own way seems to be very hospital and very open to tourists. It's what makes Seoul an attractive place to visit. At the same time, Vélez is also a very tourist friendly place, but differently. They don't see tourists as strangers, but more like a neighbour who came to visit them. It's not unusual in Vélez that a tourist would be invited for a local barbeque. This one comparison is what connects the two places to each other.

Thinking of the Seoul and Vélez makes me realize that both places are equally important to me and that both places are a necessity in my life. On the one hand, the high-tech and high pace way of living in Seoul is something I like and probably need to succeed in life. On the other hand, the slow way of life from Vélez is equally necessary to me to blow off some steam and to get my batteries recharged again.

Two beautiful islands

Imagine that you got up a minute ago. There's a sunshine went through the window toward you. You stretched and walked to the window to get a fresh air. So, guess what? There's a blue sea! This is the situation that you would undergo if you are living at an island. Not a few people in the world experience this for the place they chose to live is in the islands. Santorini and Dokdo might also be suitable examples of this.

As for the similarities between them, they both belong to the country which meets its three borders from four with sea, Korea and Greece. Also, they were both formed by the eruption of volcano standing under the islands. Although they have lots of similarities including these, however, they also have some differences about how people think about them. As for Santorini, the population of the island is from 6,500 to 11,000, maximum. However, Dokdo has a little more than 40 people including 37 guards protecting Dokdo or people live there. Add to this, while people often think Santorini as a place to travel in summer, Dokdo is argued in the historical or practical context. This different view point probably was made from their difference in advantages.

As we looked through, Santorini and Dokdo has some similarities but also differences. People can see beautiful scenery of sea in both islands but might feel totally different emotion for the islands have different history and important points.

Have you ever been to Seoul or Tokyo? Both Seoul and Tokyo are located in East Asia. Most people say that the Tokyo and Seoul have much of the similarity. But, although they heard that the two cities are very similar but also it is very different in many ways.

First, they have similarities in the outlooks of the cities. Seoul and Tokyo are both are mostly contained by sky scrappers. It looks much similar. Also the both people are asians will looks same too. If you didn't look carefully you can only see the difference that Tokyo use Japanish language and Korea use Korean language. From the Tokyo city site, it is interesting differences that the subway system in Tokyo are more complicated than in Korea. Because of the subway station is made by the private enterprise. So if you want to change the train, you have to buy several ticket, different from Korea that Korea only buys one ticket. But it is also different in real property system. In Tokyo, there is no charter system. You have to rather buy it or pay by month.

As you see, although Tokyo and Seoul looks similar, it is different in various ways. When I was in Tokyo, I didn't found much of the difference between them. Sometimes I became sad that if I saw that more carefully, than I can found more difference between them.

Stupid Box

When I was young, I disliked to spend my free time at home. I always went out to play soccer, walk my dog, have a chat with my friends, or play games in playgrounds. Nothing was more interesting than playing outside. In deed many children of my age did the same thing. Playgrounds and streets were filled with young children running, playing. However, these days I barely can see children playing outside. Playgrounds are only left with leaves, deserted. There are no cute boys playing soccer. And television is probably the reason to this. In my opinion, it is not good at all to watch children staying at home stuck with television.

This is a serious problem because what children should really focus on their age is interacting with parents and other people in order to encourage learning and healthy physical and social development. According to Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), kids and teens in age of 8 to 18 years spend nearly 4 hours a day in front of a TV screen. From my point of view, that is unbelievable since I spent almost no time watching TV. Young children are experiencing the very easy-learning period which means children of age between 8 to 18 learns really quickly and easily. However, if they spend time merely watching television, they would lose the time to experience both physical and social interactive. Some might argue that children would learn a lot from educational documentaries. However, if children only watch television, there are higher possibility to be obese, show aggressive behaviors after watching violet materials, and to learn risky behaviors early. Therefore, children who spend many time watching television should be guided by their parents.

The American Academic of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids over age 2 watch tv no more than 2 hours under the parental guide. Even though the program is educational enough, there should be a parental guide because it is important to accept that most things from television are quite different from reality. People of all age tend to receive every materials from television automatically. That is why televisions are called stupid box; because you forget to think logically once you start watching those.

Galaxy a, s, u, Vega, Optimus … These are the names of the various smart phones. Smart phone is the most incredible invention in my lifetime so far. First of all, the clear definition of smart phone is a mobile telephone with computer features that may enable it to interact with computerized systems, send e-mails, and access the web. The iPhone of Apple was like a beginning of the smart phone.

Smart phone is becoming more and more popular because it offers a variety of conveniences we can use. We can download any application that we want, and use that immediately. These days, there are so many applications we can use and so many people who use smart phone. I also experienced some of those, and I thought that the applications like weather forecast or twitter were very convenient. I think it is true that the smart phone has some problems such as the invasion of privacy or the low battery. But the fact that smart phone makes our life prosperous is true as well.

So I think if we choose the application carefully and use the smart phone in effective way, it would be very good partner for our life.

                                                                                          Children and TV

TV is one of the seriou topic in this society. Because it is affect on kinds of things especially for children. TV makes people are stupefied and let people think about dangrouse things. For example, TV makes them waste of time when site on the TV screen most of people fall into screens history maybe they could not listen what peoples said. that's menas TV has stronger poisoning. But the other way TV is very useful, such as news program and education program or life lecture. evenmore traveling program it is very support to the people, Because of most of people dont challenge for traveling, and it is spend lots of money. so traveling program  broaden these people's outlook and also let them the other world.

But children character normaly innocent and donot have perception, when they saw a new things they just follow about that and feels very wonder, that why that is bad or good they just accept that. it is reason why parents must be protect of their children and pay attention at the same time children also must follow to their parents and rely on them. That's why best way is  donot let childern face with TV . of course if parents stay with them together and they control TV program that is good for them. For example make children as soon as possible learn much things and make them creat perception.

Nowadays lots of parents very sensibility between their children and TV. because of TV program more dangerous than before. especially over the midnight. one of the newspaper said that many parents even they have meal at restaurant where they need to change channel about education program for their children.

On November, The temples in Korea are crowed with people who came to wish good luck. What they wish for is the best result of Su-neung. Su-neung is the college entrance exam in Korea that almost every Korean student should take to enter the university or college. I think that Su-neung exam is not so good way to estimate the student's condition for entering the college.

Su-neung exam takes place only once a year. Korean students should be estimated their ability to take the course in the university by just one exam. They should show everything they can do on just one day. Although they make mistake, the situation is already over. So if they make mistake, they should study one more year and take the exam again. If they can't do well on that exam again, they should do that again. According to megastudy, the biggest company regarding entrance examination in Korea, the rate that people who enter the college by taking exam more than once comprise of all freshmen is more than 50 percent. All of them are the students who made mistake on exam and studied hard for more than a year again. That shows the cruel reality in Korea. And also, In Korea, the strange things sometimes happens after the Su-neung exam. Some students who become too depressed about the result commit suicide. It became quite important matter in Korea society. Some people insist that the Su-neung exam is very good way to measure the student's ability, but I don't think so. Many attempts to skim competent students in other ways these days show that the su-neung exam is not the best way.

It is so harsh for the students who try very hard to be judge by just a single exam. We should find the other rational ways to choose talented students to prevent the sad Korean ending.

Attack of the Boob Tube

Do you know gonggi, juibulnori, ddangddameokgi? These are the Korean traditional games which I used to play over 10 years ago. My friend and I played the games everyday after class. We was so hooked on them that we did not notice the time. Sometimes I want to see children play these kinds of games, but I can not. Why? I think children these days may watch the TV rather than play outside. Children are attacked by the boob tube!

In my opinion, TV always does more harm than good. First of all, TV is one of the major causes of obesity. Have you heard about couch potato syndrome? It is a set of behavior that some people spend most of their time watching TV, therefore they are getting fat. Andrew and Rachel wrote in their book, "One of the things which is sometimes held up as a cause of this(obesity) is the amount of time children now spend watching television…compared to dtoing more physical activities." There is no doubt that watching TV has a strong influence on obesity. In addition, watching too much TV can worsen children's school performance. According to the study conducted by Linda Pagani of the University of Montreal, children who watch television too much had more problems in school. Linda said, "High levels of TV consumption during this period can lead to future unhealthy habits," and she added, "In the classroom their teachers rate them as less persevering, less task-oriented and less autonomous." some people say educational programs are helpful for kids to get beneficial information. However, there are few educational programs which are appropriate for children. The research by Seoul YMCA shows that many Korean broadcasting companies organize children's programs no more than one hour a day. Furthermore, these programs are mostly trivial animations.

There are countless bad effects on children including being overweight and doing poorly at school. In spite of a lot of disadvantages, many children are exposed to TV everyday. In order to make kids get out from a swamp of TV, parents must encourage them not to watch TV and to find a new enjoyment.
