Two works of art

France is famous for its artist. Georges Pierre Seurat and Gustave Caillebotte are two of well-known French artists in the world. 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' is Seurat's the most famous work and 'Paris street; rainy day' is one of the Caillebotte's well-known work. There are two similarities and two differences between these pictures.

There are two similarities between two works. Firstly, there are some common things between each artist. Seurat and Caillebotte were born Paris, France. They also belonged to the middle class. Their approaches to painting were different from others who lived in the same age. Though their works fit into the impressionism and neo-impressionism, they were more realistic artists than others. Seurat painted his work by scientific principle, especially pointillism to paint a picture by dotting various kinds of colors. Caillebotte drew his pictures as similar as photos. In addition, there are many likenesses on each painting. The main characters are the man and woman. Two artists drew them at the bottom of the left side of the paintings. They are also holding up an umbrella, too. Many other people appeared on each painting. The backgrounds where they painted were the spots in Paris. Seurat drew the island of la grande jatte and Caillebotte drew one of the streets in Paris.

Though many things are in common on each painting, there are two big differences in their works, too. First of all, two paintings fit different style. Seurat is an artist of neo-impressionism. As neo-impressionists painted more organized to introduce scientific order, they did their works after careful thinking. However, Caillebotte is an artist of impressionism. As these artists catch the impression that the artists got at the moment, they drew the picture at the moment they saw. Atmospheres of each painting are different, too. Seurat's painting describes the cheerful moment of one Sunday afternoon. People wear clothes and dresses with various colors and seem to be happy and cheerful. Most of them are looking forward and it seems to enjoy the day under the sunshine. On the other hand, Caillebotte's painting describe one rainy day. A lot of achromatic colors are used and people are looking downward. These factors make the mood of the picture depressed and gloomy.

Most people don't keep in mind about some information about artists, paintings and styles when they have a chance to enjoy masterpieces like 'Island of La Grande Jatte' and 'Paris street; rainy day'. If you combine these ideas when you go such places, you can be more enjoyable and pleasant than before.

    1. what I like about your writing is that it's very detailed.

    2. Your main point seems to be a contrast and comparison of two French painters.

    3. 'more organized to introduce scientific order' I liked this part because it's a good description.

'A lot of achromatic colors are used' I think this is also a vivid description.

    4. 'There are two similarities between two works.' After this sentence you start explaining about the artists. Therefore your sentence feels bit confusing.

    5. The one thing that could make the biggest improvement is trying to make it more easier to read. Your text is full of details, which is good, but when I read it for the first and second time I felt your writing a bit confusing and therefore hard to read.

  2. 1. What I like about this piece of writing is many information on general art such as pointillism and neo-impressionsim.

    2. Your main point seems to be the similarities and differences between two works of art, 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' and 'Paris street; rainy day'

    3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful : 'Caillebotte drew his pictures as similar as photos.'
Becuase, after I searched some his works, I found that they were really similar as photos!

    4. In the second paragraph, you wrote 'There are two similarities between two works', but you mentioned about the artists. Artists might be one of similarities, but in my opinion, that is irrelevant.

    5. I like your essay. However, there are many terminologies. I think they make me hard to understand your writing. I hope you to make your eassay simple.
