Introduction to Academic writing (2) fri 1,2

Side effects of an interesting box

Sometimes my parents say, "You might be able to be smarter if we prevent you from watching TV." When I was young, I could not understand what the statement meant. I, including my friends, did not think that it was normal for me to watch TV two to three hours a day. However, I think the statement that my parents told to me might correct now, because I think watching TV have a bad effect on children. Many scientific research and experiments prove that I am right.

There are two reasons that watching TV is bad for children. Archives of pediatrics and adolescent medicine say that the linguistic ability is significantly associated with the amount of time that the children under three years old have watched. They pointed out that reading is the weakest part of the children who watched TV too much. As linguistic ability improves by communication with others that needs the process of listening, understanding and speaking, it is natural that children who watch too much TV cannot speak earlier than those who do not. In addition, according to the research of Otago university, adults who watched TV when they were kids are likely to become fat, smoke, have high cholesterol level. These people have kept track on a thousand children who were born at 1972 and 1973. They found that 17 percent of the children who watched TV more than two hours become fat and get low score of the test which test of the cardiovascular function. 15 percent of them have a high cholesterol level and become heavy smokers.

Some people argue that watching children education programs such as Bobobo is good for almost all children, because they can get basic manners from the programs. However, I think parents and other adults can teach them to the children and the children can easily learn them naturally in the society. Therefore, watching TV can be harmful to children.

  1. It is very good to start with the title. It gives much information about what will the writing goes. You have three paragraph your hook is also interesting too. I aslo agree that TV have a bad influence on children. But I just wonder how about put some more your opinion rather than the information.
