In 2004, two Japanese girls, Watawa Risa and Ganehara Hitomi received a Japanese literary award at the same time. The title of the books are "The Back You Want to Kick" and "Snakes and Earrings". It was really big issue because they were the youngest writers who got the prize. I really interested in their books when I heard it, and I found that they are very similar and different in some points.

They basically have a lot of similarities. Their age is almost same, and two girls got the Akutagawa Prize, one of the most valuable literary awards in Japan at the same time. Their theme of the novel is also similar, because both of them are talking about the young people who are wandering in their life. Also, two female author tried to describe inside mind of an young girl.

However, there are some comparative things about them and their books. First of all, the life that the two writers have lived is totally different. Wataya Risa is one of the smartest writer, because she is the student of Waseda university, which is one of the great university in Japan. In contrast, Ganehara Hitomi quit her high school when she was 15 years old. Her father was an literary professor, so she could receive a lot of support from her father. Because of these difference in their background, their heroine is also different. In the novel "The Back You Want to Kick", the heroine is normal high school student who is sick and tired of the human relationship. However, in the novel "Snakes and Earrings", the heroine is a girl who are interested in split tongue. Also, the people around her are not that normal, so there were so many strange things when I read the book.

Although both of two books have female narrator who are talking about their insider mind and written by same-aged female author, they have totally different attractive points. Maybe this was the reason that they could won the prize in the same year, and I really loved those two books to read.

    1. What I like about your writing is that it's a very clear text and easy to understand.

    2. Your main point seems to be a comparison and contrast between two female Japanese writers.

    3. 'could receive a lot of support' I liked it because it's descriptive.

    4. 'are interested in split tongue' I have no idea if you mean it literally or figuratively.

    5. The biggest improvement in your writing would be that you would explain more about the similarities. Because you wrote that basically there are lots of similarities, but you write so little about it. On the other hand, you wrote that there are some comparitive things, but that part is much bigger compared to your similarities part.

  2. 1. What I like about this piece of writing is that it is clear and encourages me to read these two books.

    2. Your main point seems to be similarities and differences between two books "The Back You Wnat to Kick" and "Snakes and Earrrings"

    3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful : Their theme of the novel is also similar, because both of them are talking about the young people who are wandering in their life.
Because many people may have an experience of wandering in their life. I am one of that kind of people. So this line encourages me to read these two books.

    4. I would like to know about the details of the sentence "young people who are wandering in their life"

    5. I think similarities are not enough relatively. If you give further details about the similarities, you do not need to find new similarities. Please describe in full.

They basically have some similarities. The writers' age is almost same, so their thought about teenage girls are same. Also, two Japanese girls got the Akutagawa Prize, one of the most valuable literary awards in Japan at the same time. Their theme of the novel is also similar, because both of them are talking about the young people who are wandering in their life. The main characters of each book are looking for their answers of life, futures, and their surroundings. Especially, two female authors are good at describing inside mind of an young girl.

However, there are still many differences about them and their books. First of all, the life that the two writers have lived is totally different.
