Do you know that Koreans drink alcohol early in the morning on the first full-moon day of the lunar new year? This is called "ear-quickening wine", and Koreans drink it not to be deceived by any people. There are so many traditional things we do on the first full-moon day of the lunar new year, and each things have special meanings and proper time to do. This is because Korean ancestors thought all the time is meaningful from the night before the full-moon day to the night of the full-moon day. Koreans think that this day is really important and meaningful because they think it is another starting point of the year.

Like Koreans think that the day is the another starting point of the year, they also believe they can stay healthy and tranquil by doing those traditional behaviors on the proper times. About the night before the full-moon day, kids cannot sleep because there is a popular superstition that if a person sleeps on the night before the full-moon day, his eyebrows become white. I think maybe this is a just kind of kidding by adults. In the morning of the full-moon day, people wake up and break the shells of the nuts with their teeth to avoid swelling in that year. They have to say nothing until the break the shells. They also drinking ear-quickening wine. For their meal, they eat the rice made with the five cereals, and a sweet rice dish to stay healthy. At last, on the night of the full-moon day, Koreans wish their prayers to the full-moon.

Some of these traditional behaviors seem a bit superstitious, but through those, we can see ancestors' wisdom and thought from the past. Also, I could know how ancestors tried to live healthy and tranquil. Maybe this is one of most important things which reflect culture itself. I think we descendants have responsibility to inherit these traditional heritiges.

  1. SECOND DRAFT

Do you know that Koreans drink alcohol early in the morning on the first full-moon day of the lunar new year? This is called "ear-quickening wine", and Koreans drink it not to be deceived by any people. Like this, There are so many traditional behaviors we do on the full-moon day, and each things have special meanings and proper time to do from the night before to the full-moon night. Koreans believe the day is another starting point of the year, and this is why the full-moon day is really important and meaningful in Korea.

As Koreans think the full-moon day is the another starting point of the year, they also believe they can stay healthy and tranquil by doing those traditional behaviors on the proper times. In the night before the full-moon day, kids cannot sleep because there is a popular superstition which is that a person sleeps on the night before the full-moon day, his eyebrows will become white. Maybe this was a just kind of kidding by adults in the past. In the morning of the full-moon day, people wake up and break the shells of the nuts with their teeth to avoid swelling in that year. Some rule is needed in this behavior, which is that they have to keep silence before they break the shells of the nuts. Koreans also drinking ear-quickening wine in the full-moon morning. For their meal, they eat the rice made with the five cereals, and a sweet rice dish to stay healthy. The last thing that Koreans do on the full-moon day is wishing their prayers to the full-moon in the night.

Some of these traditional behaviors seem a little bit superstitious, but through those things, we can know ancestors' wisdom and thought from the past. Also, I could know how ancestors tried to live healthy and tranquil. Maybe this is one of most important things which reflects culture itself. I think we descendants have responsibility to inherit these traditional heritages.
